Our story

We cook the way we were raised — for family, in abundance, with care.

Maandeeq is a Somali word for the one who brings prosperity, hope, and good fortune. It's the name we chose for the place we built — a kitchen, a market, and a meeting ground for our community in Lexington, Nebraska.

Every dish at Maandeeq begins early. Goat is marinated overnight in cumin, coriander and garlic. Rice is toasted in whole spices until the kitchen smells like Mogadishu on a Friday. Anjero rises slowly on the counter, like our grandmothers taught us.

Our halal market grew from the same instinct: neighbors kept asking where to find the right cuts, the right spices, the proper basmati. So we stocked the shelves — and now you can take a piece of our kitchen home.

"Food is the language we speak best. Come hungry — we'll do the rest."

Cooked daily

Nothing reheated from yesterday. We start the pots before sunrise.

Family table

We treat first-timers like cousins coming home for dinner.
